The bramble is one of the hardiest plants I know, flourishing in a variety of environments. I walk past these plants most days and they are very difficult to observe without some prickly resistance on the surface of the leaves as well as their sharp thorns.
Certain caterpillars love them and they are very useful to other insects to inhabit or hide under. A grass snake may find a nice home in a bramble! Bees, in particular, benefit from their wealth of flowers.
This hedgerow favourite often goes unnoticed until late Spring when their delicate white and blush-pink flowers appear and really blossom throughout the Summer. I love watching stages of their fruit development from green, red (when they often resemble raspberries) and finally on to early Autumn when hoards of glossy blackberries arrive, with some of the best clusters out of reach for harvesting.
For the Ivy illustration in ink - I always find this hardy plant more visible at this time of year when most of the colour has left us. I love the intricacies of each leaf and needed some super fine lines to do it any sort of justice.
This would pair beautifully with monochrome cards and prints of a similar size.

Brazil nuts, walnuts and hazelnuts have the most beautiful textures, both inside and out.
I couldn't resist the smooth silky Brazil nuts, whose shells are pitted with the most amazing patterns; they look like mini mountains!
Walnuts of course have the most gnarly and complex shell exteriors and are often challenging to open without breaking the whole walnut inside.
Hazelnuts are so versatile - we see them in rows of praline chocolates or savoury dishes. The whole nut inside is quite robust and not as brittle or soft as the other two.
This would pair beautifully with monochrome cards and prints of a similar size.
